DHCP Alerts for Client Devices
The Nile Access Service continuously monitors the DHCP transactions across all connected client devices. When a significant percentage of clients encounter DHCP failures, the Nile Access Service generates alerts to notify the network administrators.
The Nile Access Service uses the following thresholds to determine when to generate DHCP alerts:
If 1% to 10% of the clients attempting DHCP transactions in the last 15 minutes (with a sliding window of 5 minutes) have encountered failures, the following alert is generated:
DHCP Alert: 5% <= Clients < 10% <# number> of clients attempting DHCP transactions in the last 15 minutes encountered failures at <site> for <x hrs/mins>
If 10% to 25% of the clients attempting DHCP transactions in the last 15 minutes have encountered failures, the following alert is generated:
DHCP Alert: 10% <= Clients < 25% <# number> of clients (>10%) attempting DHCP transactions in the last 15 minutes encountered failures at <site> for <x hrs/mins>
If 25% to 100% of the clients attempting DHCP transactions in the last 15 minutes have encountered failures, the following alert is generated:
DHCP Alert: 25% <= Clients <= 100% <# number> of clients (>25%) attempting DHCP transactions in the last 15 minutes encountered failures at <site> for <x hrs/mins>
The DHCP alert is "closed" when the condition is cleared, i.e., when less than 1% of the clients are encountering DHCP failures.
The DHCP alerts are categorized as "Client Devices" in the Nile Cloud Services Portal's alert table. When a user clicks on the alert, they are taken to the "Devices" page, which displays the filtered list of devices with the corresponding DHCP errors.
By providing these DHCP alerts, the Nile Access Service helps network administrators quickly identify and address any issues related to DHCP, ensuring the seamless operation of the network infrastructure.
